Charly Part Nine (Flowers For Algernon) Split Screen Part 1









In the film Charly based on the novel Flowers for Algernon our main character Charlie is a man with mental deficiencies, after he under goes experimentations his intelligence increases exponentially. However later in the film is is to discover that he will loses he intelligence and revert back to the way he was before.



In this scene Charlie sees an apparition of his former self, he tries to flee but cannot escape, as though to symbolise that his fate is unavoidable.



This scene makes use of the split screen, an effect that allows the same actor to appear in the same frame, the shot was taken in one still but in two different takes and carefully integrated the two pieces of footage into one shot. This can effect can be utilised in a film centres around time travel where a character encounters their past/future dopplegänger.
